Election 2008

Today was my first full day of working the polls at Travis County's Mega-center for voting. We had a pretty steady turn out and it was interesting to witness the break down of who showed up. I got Nelda Wells Spears who is our Tax Assessor/Collector, and a few other local celebs/politicos. I hope the turn out stays strong and stays to the left, I really wonder what the rest of Texas is doing, but for now I will enjoy my microcosm, Austin.

Last night, I went to my first book club meeting for this new book club. I am excited to find some people who actually are willing to read a broad range of books and have intelligent or just fun conversation about them, not that it is too lofty.

The veggies are doing well, although we have had issues with some creature(s) eating the butternut squash. I actually had one excellent acorn squash that was nearly ready to pick, but I left it to get a little more ripe, only for it to be eaten all the way to the stem. I tried some castor oil repellent for burrowing creatures which didnt seem to work, so yesterday I applied some pepper repellent for any other kind of animal.
I will be uploading some cucumber pictures, etc. soon. Maybe even tonight.

Bumper Squash, et al

We have a huge crop of summer squash and some of the winter squash is really taking over (butternut and acorn.)

We put in beans, cucumber, corn, eggplant and some other stuff a little later now that it is cooling off. The cucumber and corn is really coming in quickly. I don't know if we will get a ton out this year, but I had the seeds and it is a good experiment for this year.

Some Artist Trading Cards

These are just a new project I have been doing. Mainly it is good for being a little creative and taking my mind off of all the serious things going on. You basically can sign up with groups of people to do swaps, a hostess picks themes/assignments and lays out the rules, then you complete a certain number of these cards that are the size of baseball cards and mail them to the hostess. She then swaps them all out and mails you one each of everyone else's cards.
Ask me if you are interested in joining in on the fun.
Unfortunately, I mailed off some of my favorites without getting a picture...:(

Retro Wallpaper

I was inspired by some color combos and patterns that inspired me to make these sort of 1950s wallpaper cards.
